BRIXHAM NATIONAL 2011
The last national of the season gave us fast choppy water and everyone seemed keen to finalise their season’s positions. Titles were up for grabs in almost all categories.
Hunstanton skiers knew what was required and they did their utmost to make it happen.
In the Brit kids Ben Manchett excelled yet again, dominating the race to take 1st place and The Brit Kids Title.
In the Seniors Glenn Manchett took 1st place and the title, afterwards Glenn said, “After 50 years of coming 2nd it’s about time I won”.
In the ladies Clare Taylor took her first win of the season with Lucy Gale coming in a close 2nd. They finished 2nd and 3rd respectively for the season.
In the main race Harvey Robinsons F1 boat sheared a drive shaft on the start line which finished his title bid leaving him 2nd in F1 for the season.
Jack Lynch on a mission to gain 3rd place for the season in F2 had a fall, finished 3rd on the day but finished 4th for the season. Matt Fielding finished 6th on the day, 5th for the season in F2 and with the reliability of team and skier finished in 2nd place in the overall main race.
MY FINAL WORDS ON THIS SEASON
It has been a trying season for both competitors and organisers with a tight schedule, world selections, the windy weather we have experienced this year and cancelled races, but the racing which took place was fantastic.
Great results were attained by all our Hunstanton skiers.
Ben Manchett had a great season winning two of the national races and finishing 1st in Brit kids.
Glenn Manchett won three of the national races and finished 1st in the seniors just to keep Ben quiet.
Thomas Smith finished 4th in the juniors only having done three races and finished 2nd overall in the Euro Kids European cup series.
Clare Taylor took 2nd place in the nationals and Lucy Gale 3rd in the Ladies.
Jack Lynch had another good season finishing 4th in F2 nationals and a brilliant 2nd in F2 in the European cup race at Viersel.
Matt Fielding with a late come back to F2 had a very consistent season finishing 5th in F2 and 2nd overall in the Nationals.
Harvey Robinson made the very difficult transition from F2 to F1 winning two nationals just missing out on the F1 title with a breakdown and finishing 2nd in the European cup race at Cardiff.
I would like to take this opportunity in wishing Clare Taylor and Jack Lynch all the best for the World Championships in Australia. I know you will do both Club and Country proud. GOOD LUCK.
